CASE is an SBA-certified Women-Owned (WOSB) and HUBZone Small Business headquartered in
Asheville, NC at The Collider, with operations spanning six US time zones (East Coast to Hawaii). We focus on creating impactful, innovative, credible, and globally recognized climate, ecological, social, and environmental science and technology expertise that enables public and private sector organizations to make environmentally intelligent decisions, adapt to changing conditions, anticipate and solve problems, and create lasting economic, social, and ecosystem resilience.
Position Overview:
As a Hydrometeorologist, you will play a vital role in studying the interactions between the Earth's atmosphere and its water cycle. Your responsibilities will include analyzing meteorological data, assessing hydrological processes, and forecasting weather-related phenomena. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, government agencies, research institutions, and other stakeholders to provide insights into weather patterns, water resources, and climate-related risks.
Key Responsibilities:
Weather Forecasting: Utilize meteorological data, numerical weather prediction models, and satellite observations to generate accurate and timely weather forecasts. Monitor atmospheric conditions, such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and precipitation, to anticipate short-term weather patterns and trends.
Hydrological Analysis: Analyze hydrological data, including streamflow measurements, precipitation records, and groundwater levels, to assess water availability, quality, and distribution. Evaluate the impacts of weather events, such as rainfall, snowmelt, and drought, on river systems, watersheds, and water resources management.
Flood Forecasting and Warning: Develop flood forecasting models and systems to predict river discharge, flood extents, and flood risk levels. Provide early warnings and risk assessments for flash floods, riverine floods, and coastal inundation events. Collaborate with emergency management agencies and stakeholders to enhance flood preparedness and response efforts.
Drought Monitoring and Assessment: Monitor and analyze drought conditions using meteorological drought indices, soil moisture data, and remote sensing techniques. Assess the severity, duration, and spatial extent of drought events and their impacts on agriculture, ecosystems, and water supply systems.
Climate Analysis: Study long-term climate trends, variability, and extreme weather events using historical climate data, climate models, and climate indices. Investigate the connections between weather patterns, atmospheric circulation, and climate phenomena, such as El Niño, La Niña, and climate change.
Research and Development: Conduct research to improve understanding of hydrometeorological processes, develop innovative forecasting techniques, and enhance prediction capabilities. Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and stakeholders to address emerging challenges in water resources management, climate adaptation, and disaster risk reduction.
Communication and Collaboration: Communicate weather and hydrological information to diverse audiences, including policymakers, emergency responders, agricultural producers, and the general public. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate meteorological and hydrological data into decision-making processes and resource management strategies.
