Position Overview:
In this position, your involvement will be crucial in gathering, sustaining, and enhancing top-notch instrumental datasets tailored for specific stakeholder groups and commercial industries. This responsibility includes creating innovative products and services based on documented user needs. These offerings may have a regional, national, or global scope and may utilize diverse datasets. The development process will follow a collaborative approach known as 'co-production of knowledge,' where developers maintain ongoing communication with practitioners to ensure the usefulness and adoption of products and services.
Requirements:
● Assemble and maintain vertically integrated, quality-assured instrumental datasets tailored for specific stakeholder communities and commercial sectors.
● Create homogenized instrumental datasets that account for the impact of non-climatic factors in the historical record, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
● Develop gridded products that provide high-resolution, temporally consistent analysis of environmental parameters.
● Generate point-based and gridded products depicting averages and extremes at multiple scales, offering valuable insights into climate patterns.
● Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver products and services accordingly.
● Expand the suite of available file formats for datasets and products, ensuring compatibility and accessibility.
● Incorporate various data streams into a suite of climate monitoring services, enriching the depth and breadth of available information.
● Enhance mapping content and analysis capabilities of climate monitoring web applications to provide valuable insights to users.
● Produce engaging ArcGIS StoryMaps depicting past weather and climate events for public consumption, fostering awareness and understanding.
Required Skills:
● Strong background in climate science with hands-on experience in developing datasets, products, services, and reports.
● Proficiency in programming languages, including Fortran and Python to analyze and use environmental data effectively.
● Experience in data analysis and management, demonstrating a strong analytical mindset.
● Proficiency in utilizing various file formats for datasets, ensuring versatility and adaptability.
● Familiarity with ArcGIS and climate monitoring web applications, enabling effective mapping and analysis.
● Effective communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and deliver tailored products and services.
Preferred Skills:
● Experience in climate research and development within scientific and environmental data domains.
● Familiarity with additional data analysis tools and programming languages.
● Experience in producing engaging and informative data visualizations for public consumption.
● Proven ability to incorporate diverse data streams into climate monitoring services.
● Expertise in assembling and maintaining quality-assured instrumental datasets.
Education Requirements:
● Relevant experience emphasizing data analysis, climate science, or related disciplines and/or equivalent work experience.
